Flyover Reflections by Amy Vanlandingham

New forms and patterns are made in the reflections of shapes and colors that were inspired by landscapes and features from an aerial perspective. Land slowly shifts and changes through the course of time, yet it is still the same earth it has always been…

This new idea, possibly a series called ‘Flyover Reflections,’ is the latest in the works in my studio. This photo shows the process of playing with this idea. How the final piece will come together as one cohesive unit is yet to be solved. Will it be one large piece? Will it be multiple smaller pieces that flow off of each other?

Standby for updates!

Shower Perceptions by Amy Vanlandingham

The Embrace

When I’m showering, I don’t ever want to clog the drain; so I put my hair on the shower wall and then wipe it off after every shower. One morning as I was staring at the shower wall, I realized that my hair had formed an image. So I took a picture of it, and decided to sketch it on my Strathmore Sketchpad. Since this first experience, during my showers I have been paying more attention to the hair on the shower wall and if there are any images that present themselves. This first image as seen here, I call, “The Embrace.” I see a man with a cowboy hat, holding a woman with long hair and a dress. I have not been able to see images in my hair after every shower, but I have used these shower perceptions as a sort of drawing exercise when they do show up.

To represent these perceptions, I have drawn them in a cubist abstract style, with near transparent colors and solid lines. The lightly colored shapes represent the translucent state of seeing images in objects or random lines, and the solid lines represent the physical state and the reality in which these objects or lines exist.

If I see enough shower perceptions, perhaps they will make a lovely series…
